Crisis Averted!

Had my first scary incident on Thursday when I broke my key in the lock to my apartment. It's one of those huge, old-fashioned keys, and it was impossible to use, so I ended up pushing it too much. It was about 1am, and my host dad was asleep, so I was stuck with no way inside, in a city I still barely know at all! I called him/knocked on the door about a million times, but he didn't wake up. I ended up staying overnight with a friend in an international students dorm. When I got back in the morning, Jean Paul STILL didn't answer, but I knocked hard enough that the door sort of magically opened on its own. When Jean Paul finally woke up, he was totally cool with it and got the lock fixed. Now I have to be extra delicate so it never happens again!!!

In other news, I went out last night for the first time in my own backyard, on Rue Oberkampf. It has only been one week, and I'm already getting to know the different areas of Paris better than I know the different areas of NYC.

Last piece of news is that classes start for real next week. I have to take French Practicum, but I'm also shopping the following classes: Study of a Director: Jean Renoir, French Cinema in the 1970s, and the Presence of Myth in Cinema. Eek!

  2. Why doesn't blogspot have a "Like" button!? Adventures are so exciting! Getting locked out is so not...Erica is currently locked out BUT is on her way IN from the airport--HOORAH! We all miss you terribly, and we've taken over your food shelf. Did you know you had unrefridgerated mild salsa in there for weeks? Really? MILD?

Also, told some of my FFFs (Fabulous French Friends) that I'll be there soon so there are even more people to meet!

Be safe when you're lost and talk to you soon!
